As I mentioned last time, I will be taking some days this week to be away with my priest group. We have been getting away together for 22 years. How quickly those years have gone. It is a time to reflect, pray, recharge and have some great meals and conversations. I hope you also can find some time this summer to recharge and enter more deeply into your prayer life. Life seems so busy and stepping away gives us that sense of falling behind or missing out. Yet we all need some space and time to refocus, putting Jesus at the center of our lives.

The Knights of Columbus are holding their membership drive this weekend. I hope you heard the message offered to the men of our parish to join a group of men that put Jesus front and center; finding times to put charity into action. I have been a member for almost 30 years. The resources the Knights offer to help you grow in the faith is amazing, so do think it over.

Two weeks ago the diocese celebrated the ordination of three new priests. What a wonderful celebration. It is such a powerful Mass and one you should consider attending some time in your life. Ordinations are open to the public. Yet our seminarians and those considering the priesthood need your prayers.

Recently I was introduced to “Friends of the Bridegroom.” It is a group that is working for women’s vocations to religious and consecrated life. Their website is something I encourage you to look at. Some of the points they have are specifically for priests. There are things I never considered or would have thought the opposite of as a way of helping young women consider their calling to be a bride of Christ.

The bottom line is summer is not a time to ‘take off’ from praying for our young people and their God given vocations.
