As we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family we hear in the Gospel passage Jesus’ title. He was known as someone who called Nazareth home. Nazareth was not a big city, it was not well known for any type of product or skill. Rather it was just another small city in which normal people lived their lives, raised families, and did their best to get by. All this changed when Jesus began His public ministry and people wanted to know more about Him. Where did He come from? Who was His father? They wanted to know His background so they could better understand His message and who He was. We all come from some town or city as well.

We should ask ourselves; what will we be called? Will we be known as someone from Central Wisconsin that lived a rather normal life, or will we make our mark in the world so people will recognize us? Will we seek fame and fortune, or be content to live as one soul among the billions here on earth. Will we seek a relationship with God, or will we make our way in the world without Him? These are questions we should ask of ourselves, especially as we begin a new year.

Fame and fortune are passing things, but God does not pass away. I urge everyone to seek the God of the past, present, and future. Come to know Him through His Church and build a relationship with Him. He is always present to us, dwelling within us if we allow. He will lead you to everlasting joy and peace, never leading you astray.

Let’s all be known as a son or daughter of God. A follower of Jesus. Someone guided by the Holy Spirit. Let this be our goal for the new year and beyond!

Blessing to you,

Deacon Ray
