In the Gospel reading today we hear Peter, Andrew, James, and John immediately follow after Jesus when He calls. What an incredible moment for these men! To be called by Jesus is simply amazing; to answer the call as they did shows each of us it is possible to follow our Lord. They gave up everything to follow Jesus! As we celebrate parish anniversaries let’s remember those who answered God’s call right here.

In this year of celebration for our parishes we take time to realize how those who have built, grown, and maintained our places of worship have sacrificed so we can enjoy worshiping in our parishes. These women and men have given their time, talent, financial resources to ensure we have a beautiful worship space and a solid faith foundation in which we gather to offer sacrifice. St. Peter’s is celebrating 150 years of faith, while St. Casimir’s is celebrating 155! What a blessing to be involved in our two faith communities!

Where would we be without those who have built our worship spaces, educated our children in the faith, provided assistance for those unable to care for themselves and their families? This generosity and caring nature has been nurtured by the priests and religious sisters that have served the Church all these years. And the call was answered by those who follow Jesus; we are reaping the benefit of their hard work and dedication to God.

Let’s reflect on those wonderful people who have worked so hard in the past so we can appreciate where we have come from and where we are headed. Did they always get it right? No, but they tried their best! Thank the Lord for all these amazing priests, religious sisters, parishioners and benefactors who have dedicated themselves to God. Let’s follow in their footsteps and live Godly lives giving thanks for all these wonderful blessings!
